Police Misconduct

The Constitution and 42 U.S. Code, Section 1983 makes it unlawful for anyone acting under the authority of state law to deprive another person of his or her rights under the Constitution or federal law. Sometimes police officers go too far in executing their duties and violate the rights of citizens. The victim of the misconduct may have recourse through federal and state laws. Civil rights laws provide for attorney fees, compensatory and punitive damages for injured parties who enforce their rights.
